Programs – Nawart (2016)

NAWART is a renewable energy entrepreneurship support program, that was designed to encourage entrepreneurs to contribute to building a Renewable Energy Sector in Egypt. The team at Nawart started the program by identifying and creating awareness around seven business opportunities, with social and market impact, in the Renewable energy sector in Egypt. The business opportunities that were identified as feasible for startups to pursue are: Small scale wind solutions, waste to energy, solar/energy efficiency gadgets, small scale solar water pumping, low cost solar thermal solutions, solar street lighting and solar well water desalination. The program has received 110 applications from which 15 potential startups were selected.

THE PROGRAM HAS PROVIDED STARTUPS WITH:
– 96 hours of technical and business training
– Investment and networking opportunities
– More than 190 hours of technical and business consultancy and advisory
– Access to investments and other funding sources
– Knowledge sharing through five speakers
– Two awards
– 11 technical and business experts (selection and feedback)

THE STARTUPS:
– Three designed and developed market ready prototypes.
– Raised 330,000 EGP in awards (through partnerships with other NGOs).
– Two received 40,000 EGP in awards (from the program).
– Technologies used: 36% PV – 22% Wind – 21% Energy efficiency – 14% Waste to Energy – 7% Solar Thermal.
– Five prototypes, two revenue generating businesses.
